'THE ASHES CUP'

On Anniversary Day, 26th January 1931, the St George Cricket Umpires League played Parramatta Umpires in their second match between the two Leagues. At the conclusion of the match won by St George, a silver container with ashes sealed inside the trophy became the 'Ashes Cup.' A match for this trophy became an annual event between the two Leagues usually played on Anniversary Day (later on to be called Australia Day) and continued for almost 40 years.

In total, St George won 13 matches (1931, 1933, 1937, 1941, 1952, 1954, 1956, 1957, 1958, 1960, 1966, 1967, 1968)

Parramatta won 17 matches (1932, 1934, 1935, 1936, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1948, 1949, 1950, 1953, 1955, 1959, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1965)

2 Results are unknown (1947 and 1951)

Between 1942-1946 no matches were played, likely due to the Second World War. There was also no match played in 1962.
