MANTELPIECE CLOCK PRESENTED TO R. L. JONES

This Mantelpiece clock was presented to R. L. Jones from the members of the St. George District Cricket Club in recognition of his appointment to the Australian selection committee on the 7th of December 1929.
Mr Jones was a club member and noted cricket administrator who served on the Australian selection committee from 1926-1930.

A decision by Mr Jones and co-selector C.E. Dolling to not select the captain of the most recent series in 1928-29, Jack Ryder (also a selector), was a very controversial decision at the time. W. M. Woodful was selected as captain and Ryder was dropped, never to play a test match again. Following this, Jones and Dolling were moved aside from their role as selectors for the Australian side.
