MR ST GEORGE: WARREN SAUNDERS AND THE CULTURE OF SUCCESS HE INSPIRED

John Rogers
Published 2018

This book concentrates on the contribution of Warren Saunders to the St George District Cricket Club during his 14 years as captain - from 1958-59 to 1971-72 - a record unmatched by any other player in the history of Sydney Grade Cricket. In those days, Saturday afternoons in Sydney featured names such as Benaud, O'Neill, Booth, Watson, Davidson, Simpson, Harvey, Mission, Rorke, Marks, Burke, Philpott, O'Keeffe. It was a golden era in Australian sport in general and, just as St George dominated rugby league, the area's cricket club, led by Warren Saunders, dominated Sydney cricket.
However, that story has to be seen against the rich background of Warren's many and varied contributions to the St George community as a whole.
