BRADMAN AT BLACKHEATH

Ronald Cardwell and Irene McKilligan
Published 2011

A match that Bradman himself referred to as 'rather odd', Bradman at Blackheath recounts a match played between Blackheath Cricket Club and the Pottery Cricket Club from Lithgow. According to Bradman:

"The main purpose of the match was to try out a new kind of wicket for which extravagant claims were being made. It was supposed to supplant turf."

Those who saw the innings of Bradman in the match witnessed what was the most dramatic and sustained hitting display of bat on ball ever recorded in Australia. Bradman scored 256 runs in a very timely fashion, scoring his first 150 in 80 minutes and then scoring the following 100 runs in 3 eight-ball overs.

A fascinating story of a mostly unknown cricket match.
