NORM O'NEILL AUSTRALIAN SECOND XI BLAZER

Australian Cricket blazer belonging to Norm O'Neill from a tour to New Zealand in 1967. The blazer displays the Australian Cricket Coat of Arms as well as 'N.Z. TOUR 1967' which has been sewn onto the jacket breast pocket.

In 1967 an Australian Second XI side toured New Zealand, while the national side was touring South Africa. The Second XI side was captained by Les Favell and played 10 matches in New Zealand. Also on the tour was fellow St. George teammate Brian Booth. 4 matches were played against New Zealand, as well as one match each against the 6 provinces. The Australians were victorious against Auckland and Otago, but were unsuccessful in the other 8 matches. 6 were drawn, with a loss to Canterbury (the first time an Australian side had lost a First-Class match in New Zealand) and a loss in the first international match against New Zealand.

Despite two national sides playing against each other, the 4 matches were not given Test match status.

O'Neill scored 3879 runs for St. George DCC at an average of 61.6 with a highest score of 201 not out. In First-class cricket O'Neill amassed 13,859 runs at an average of 50.95 with a highest score of 284. At Test Cricket level O'Neill scored 2,779 runs at an average of 45.55 with a highest score 181.
